From public health and pharmacy to physical therapy and anatomy, this year’s Student Senate leaders bring perspectives from across CU Anschutz. Together, they’re focused on strengthening connections, representing student voices and creating more opportunities for students to engage with one another.
Meet the six students helping lead the way – and learn a little about who they are beyond the classroom.
Student Body President | Modern Human Anatomy, CU Anschutz Graduate School | Second Year
For Lorena Barb, serving as student body president is an opportunity to have an active role in the student experience and represent the collective needs and interests of students across CU Anschutz.
Her goal this year is simple but important: foster more campus connection. By serving as a voice for the student body, Barb hopes to help create a campus environment and culture where students can thrive.
Beyond the books: Barb enjoys reading, spending time with her pets and, as a personal goal this year, hopes to get into hiking and explore more of Colorado’s natural landmarks.
Vice President | CU Anschuz Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences | Third Year
Trey Smith joined Student Senate to make meaningful connections and help foster interprofessional collaboration across CU Anschutz.
As vice president, Smith hopes to build on those connections by bringing CU Anschutz and the surrounding community closer together.
And when asked about his favorite thing at CU Anschutz? His answer gets straight to the point: Woodgrain Bagels!
Beyond the books: You’ll likely find Smith hiking or fishing when he isn’t studying.
Vice President of Communications | Colorado School of Public Health | Second Year
After previously serving as a general senator, Troy Sensano wanted to continue representing the Colorado School of Public Health while taking on a larger role in campus events and relations.
As vice president of communications, Sensano hopes to increase the visibility of Student Senate and raise awareness of the many initiatives it helps make possible across campus.
Beyond the books: Sensano describes himself as a huge Swiftie, foodie, TV and movie binger, traveler and Denver nightlife enthusiast.
Vice President of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) | Modern Human Anatomy, CU Anschutz Graduate School | Second Year
Muazzam Ramziddin sees Student Senate as an opportunity to bring people from different backgrounds together and ensure students feel their voices are heard.
As an immigrant who has experienced different educational and cultural environments, Ramziddin values hearing and bridging different perspectives. This year, she hopes to build on existing campus traditions and connections while introducing new ideas that reflect students’ interests and celebrate the range of backgrounds and experiences represented at CU Anschutz.
Beyond the books: Ramziddin enjoys spending time with family, exploring Colorado and finding new places to unwind.
Vice President of Finance | Physical Therapy Program, CU Anschutz School of Medicine | Second Year
For Anastasia Beers, Student Senate leadership combines two priorities: representing her program and creating opportunities for students from different programs to connect.
As vice president of finance, Beers hopes to support as many student organizations as possible, helping them create educational and social opportunities that bring students together and strengthen their connection to CU Anschutz.
While she appreciates the academic opportunities on campus, some of her favorite moments are the everyday ones – walking around campus at lunch and seeing students, faculty and staff spending time together outside the classroom and office.
Beyond the books: Beers likes to stay active and outdoors, whether she’s biking, running, swimming or skiing in the winter.
Parliamentarian | CU Anschutz Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences | Second Year
Niloy “Neil” Roy wanted to serve in Student Senate for a straightforward reason: to be a voice for students at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
For Roy, the people make CU Anschutz special. His friendships and the faculty are his favorite parts of being on campus.
Beyond the books: His interests cover plenty of ground – fitness, science fiction, aerospace, archaeology, world events, cryptocurrency, startups and comics.
Different programs, different interests and different reasons for getting involved bring this group together. As they take on their roles this year, CU Anschutz’s Student Senate leaders share a common goal: making campus a place where students can connect, participate and have a voice in their experience on campus.
