For highly productive research teams a time develops when you need to add depth to your team to ensure your research continues to evolve and move forward. For the Mourani Lab, the next step in advancement was to hire a data manager as a key individual to support research that the team is currently completing and planning.
Dr. Peter Mourani realized that his statistician’s time was being consumed by data management tasks which didn’t leave her enough time to complete analyses for their research.
“Hiring a data manager to merge datasets, clean data, and otherwise prepare the data for analyses would freeup my biostatistician’s time to perform data analysis, thus enhancing the speed of work,” explained Dr. Mourani.
This development allowed Victoria Soesanto to join the group and she immediately began developing efficiencies and building a relational database to help organize the current data and prepare for future studies.“
"We have a lot of data and building an organized, relational database could cut the time it takes for each researcher to get the exact data set they need,” explained Victoria Soesanto, PRA with CIDA. To further build efficiencies, Soesanto is also building a table that will link all of the IDs from different samples together so she can add additional efficiencies to pulling data sets.
These efficiencies, have already enhanced the speed at which research can be completed for the team.
Once the relational database is built, Victoria will continue to manage the data for the Mourani Lab that includes a large body of clinical data, and as well as multiple sets of high dimensional laboratory data (proteomics, 16S rRNAsequencing, transcriptomic).
For this highly collaborative team, who is preparing for prospective studies, her role will evolve to creating databases and managing the data for these new studies.
