The Colorado School of Public Health is proud to announce the establishment of the Nancy Gary, PsyD Endowed Professorship in Child Health Policy—a new, dedicated academic appointment that will elevate the school’s leadership in strengthening the health and well‑being of Colorado’s children.
As the State of Colorado continues to confront challenges such as food insecurity, limited access to mental health services and care, alarming rates of suicide and overdoses, and child homelessness, ColoradoSPH is uniquely positioned to lead with the research, evidence, and community partnerships these challenges demand. This new endowed professorship, housed within the Department of Health Systems, Policy & Management, will establish a dedicated faculty researcher appointment in child health policy for the first time in the school’s history, integrating scholarship, teaching, and community‑engaged work to address the most urgent issues facing children and families.
The focus of the role will cover critical, timely issues ranging from mental and behavioral health to brain development and vaccine utilization. This reflects both the priorities of many Colorado communities and the vision of its namesake, Dr. Nancy Gary, a trailblazing child psychologist, community leader, and philanthropic innovator whose decades of service has transformed lives of countless young people across the state.
By honoring Dr. Gary’s legacy, this professorship positions ColoradoSPH as a hub for child health policy innovation, academic excellence, and cross‑sector partnership. It will further ensure that the next generation of public health professionals and policymakers is equipped to build a healthier, more equitable future for all Colorado children.
The establishment of this professorship would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of Dr. Bonnie Camp, Elaine Gantz Berman, and the wholehearted endorsement and support of Dr. Nancy Gary herself. ColoradoSPH will soon initiate a search to identify the inaugural scholar to hold the Gary professorship.
