This fall, the Health Systems, Management & Policy department will launch a new course focused on AI and public health. This class will help students understand how artificial intelligence is reshaping health systems, data analysis, workforce capacity, and community engagement. It’s one of the first offerings of its kind in the region and signals our commitment to preparing students for the realities of a rapidly evolving field.
Modernized Instructional Design
Under the leadership of Elaine Scallan Walter, professor and a director of the Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center, our instructional design team has developed a standardized suite of Canvas course templates available to all faculty. These templates modernize the look and feel of our courses, strengthen our brand identity, and create a seamless experience for students as they move from class to class. They also support faculty in transitioning courses from in‑person to online formats—an increasingly essential capability in today’s learning environment.
AI‑Powered Learning Avatars
ColoradoSPH’s Lee Newman, distinguished professor and director of the Centers for Health, Work and Environment, is also collaborating with the central CU Anschutz team to develop AI avatars that simulate real‑world public health interactions. These avatars will help students practice and refine critical communication skills, including:
Once fully developed, these avatars will become powerful classroom tools, giving students and practicing public health professionals a safe, realistic environment to rehearse the kinds of conversations they will encounter throughout their careers.
