Natalie Buys, CRA, is the NCURA 2025 Region VII Volunteer Service Award Recipient!

Natalie Buys, CRA, Research and Finance Program Director for the CU Anschutz Department of Family Medicine, has been awarded the 2025 Region VII Volunteer Service Award by the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). This honor recognizes Natalie’s enthusiastic leadership and her remarkable, long-term contributions—earning her the distinction of an “unwavering champion of volunteerism.” 

NCURA is an international professional organization dedicated to advancing research administration through education, professional development, and the sharing of knowledge and experiences. It fosters a diverse, collegial, and respected global community. Region VII represents the Rocky Mountain area, encompassing Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Out of this entire region, Natalie has earned this prestigious title—a truly impressive and well-deserved honor. 

During her time with NCURA, Natalie has held numerous leadership roles at both the regional and national levels, including serving on the National Board of Directors and as Region VII Chair. Her impact extends across committees, conferences, and educational programming, where she has consistently elevated the quality of professional development and fostered a welcoming, collaborative environment.  

Natalie is known for her energy, professionalism, and generosity, many qualities that reflect the same dedication and passion seen through her role within the department. According to her nomination letter, her contributions have not only shaped Region VII’s culture but also inspired a new generation of volunteers. 

Receiving this award means a great deal to Natalie, “NCURA is a collaborative and forward-thinking organization, and I am honored to be recognized by my peers for work that I get so much value from.” 

When asked about her motivation for her work, she said, “Research Administration is a dynamic field and a place where I get to use my skillset to support the amazing researchers in [the Department of Family Medicine] to do their incredible work. Being a member, and an active volunteer, of NCURA helps to drive new ideas, access to shared resources and a network of colleagues that support and inspire me to continuously grow professionally.”
