Rachel Rodriguez, MD, FAAFP, Associate Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at CU Anschutz, authored a Practice Pearl in the May/June 2026 edition of the Family Practice Management (FPM) journal titled, "Use of a Centralized System for Time-Off Requests.”

In her article, Dr. Rodriguez outlines the time-off request system used by clinicians at UCHealth Primary Care – Lone Tree. She highlights the system’s accessibility and organization, noting that every clinician can add or edit items within a shared “central hub” spreadsheet.

From the article:

“Managing clinician time-off requests can be burdensome and error-prone. Our clinic was plagued with absence requests, which became more challenging as our clinic grew. We transitioned to a cloud-based, centralized system in the form of a SharePoint spreadsheet to stay organized. There can be a learning curve with any new tool, but the payoff is significant when it is up and running.”
