2025 CU Anschutz Palliative Care Education Holiday Message

Over the past year, palliative care education has grown leaps and bounds at CU Anschutz. We were invited to both national and international conferences to present, our student cohort was the largest ever, and faculty has grown to include more biomedical and allied health experts in palliative care.

The AAHPM Meeting was held in Denver this year, and in conjunction we hosted the Narrative Story Exchange with about one hundred attendees. Students and alumni from several cohorts attended, faculty joined, and clinical folks from UCH and the community participated as well. As an online program, it is always special to see our colleagues in person.

MSPC graduating students attended CU Anschutz graduation, and I had the honor of hooding the students and congratulating them in person. We also held our second annual alumni gathering at Cheluna at Stanley Marketplace, where they graciously donated the upstairs space for our celebration.

This fall, for UCH Palliative Care Days, Heather Coats and Harri Brackett brought our tertiary center together to celebrate education, research, and clinical successes of CU Anschutz/UCH. IPCC/MSPC/CHPM students and alumni attended the two-day conference.

Jean Kutner and the research team at CU Anschutz received a 64-million-dollar, multi-year grant to study palliative care in relation to care partners called ASCENT. This will bring a considerable amount of reflected glory on the campus and advance palliative care on a national level.

Jeanie Youngwerth and the palliative care clinical team continue to inspire and amaze with the high-level specialty care they provide in the clinic and inpatient. Several folks in palliative care work both clinically and teach within our programs.

The MSPC leadership team is incredibly grateful to all the faculty, students, alumni, and community partners who believe in the value of palliative care education, research, and clinical excellence. CU Anschutz palliative care is an incredible place to be.

Happy Holidays and Welcome 2026,

Melissa
