European Association of Palliative Care Meeting

Written by Melissa C Palmer, JD LCSW ACHP-SW APHSW-C | July 08, 2025

The MSPC leadership team and faculty represented CU Anschutz in Helsinki for the EAPC conference.  We were stunned at the incredible level of support from the highest levels nationally for palliative care.  Kaisa Juuso, the current Minister of Social Affairs and Health of Finland, spoke about the government’s pledge to implement palliative care programs in all the hospitals in Finland during the opening session. Finland pledges to ensure that all residents of Finland have access to palliative care in their homes.   Minister Juuso’s words resonated with the attendees. Her philosophy is in close alignment with the palliative care lens.  We were inspired as a team that palliative is growing both in the US and internationally.

We shared virtual and physical posters during the poster session.  Here are the titles/presenters:

Kelly Arora: What Palliative Care Providers Need to Know for Effective Spiritual Conversations in a Post-Religious Future (physical poster)

Kelly Arora, Katie Morrison, Melissa Palmer Innovative Curriculum Enhances Palliative Care Provider Spiritual Care Competence (physical poster)

Katie Morrison/Kelly Arora/Melissa Palmer: Integration of Medical Improv in a Community Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship (CHPM) to promote growth mindset and connection (virtual poster)

Thank you to Mark Earnest and GIM for providing a grant through the Mendelssen Funds for our registration fees and a portion of the cost to travel to Helsinki to present.  Being present with like-minded experts in the field was an uplifting experience for us all.
