The CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) partnered with the Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research in February for their quarterly lecture series, Let’s Talk: Conversations about Women’s Health.

February is American Heart Month, a time to raise awareness about heart disease and how to prevent it. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S. and one of three of the Ludeman Center’s main research areas. Heart Health 360: Diet, Wellness and Breakthrough Research focused on cardiovascular research and daily habits we can engage in to improve our own heart health.

To kick off the event, the AHWC set up a heart-healthy trail mix station, offering attendees a fun and interactive way to learn about nutrient-rich foods that support heart health, alongside dietary education. A special segment was also led by Lauren Heap, Personal Training Manager, focusing on stretching exercises that are ideal for people who spend long hours at desks, encouraging physical movement to prevent cardiovascular strain.

Throughout the event, Brian Stauffer, MD, Audrey Bergouignan, PhD, and Kevin Masters, PhD shared evidence-based insights on several important topics: vascular health, the hormonal impacts on the heart, and active habits for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system. Additionally, Dr. Masters presented valuable findings in cardiovascular health psychology, shedding light on the mental and emotional aspects of heart health and their implications on lifestyle choices.

This collaborative event offered a comprehensive overview of how diet, daily activities, and emotional health play a role in cardiovascular wellness. For those interested in learning more about this talk or the full Let’s Talk lecture series, click here.
