Essentially, public health needs rebuilding, said Dr. Jon Samet, dean of the Colorado School of Public Health. Officials need to rebuild public health staffing, better integrate health care and public health systems, stockpile supplies to provide better respiratory protection to workers in high-risk industries in case of future risk and invest in updating public health databases, among other steps, Samet said.
