Four CU Anschutz Researchers Among the 2022 Class of Boettcher Investigators

Written by Staff | June 06, 2022

The Boettcher Foundation has selected eight researchers, including four from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, to receive funding through the Boettcher Foundation’s Webb-Waring Biomedical Research Awards Program.

The recipients, known as Boettcher Investigators, work in teaching and research positions at CU Anschutz, University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado State University and National Jewish Health.

The $1.88 million in awards support promising, early career scientific researchers, allowing them to establish their independent research and make it competitive for major federal and private awards. Recipients are awarded $235,000 in grant funding to sustain up to three years of biomedical research.

All four Boettcher Investigators are faculty members at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  The investigators and their research topics are:

Martin W. Breuss, PhD, assistant professor of pediatrics: Elucidation of the features of germ cell mosaicism and its impact on human health.

Shanlee Davis, MD, PhD, assistant professor of pediatrics: Pathophysiology of cardiometabolic dysfunction of Klinefelter Syndrome.

Michael S. Leibowitz, MD, PhD, assistant professor of pediatrics: Altering the tumor microenvironment to increase epitope spreading and augment chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy for metastatic osteosarcoma.

Andrew C. Smith, PT, DPT, PhD, assistant professor of physical therapy: Spinal cord lesion determinants of optimal responsiveness to spinal cord stimulation.
