When her dad started to literally throw money in the garbage, Channing Tate, PhD, MPH, knew something was wrong. He’d always been a little “quirky.” He had his own ideas about where to store cash, such as between pages 101 and 102 in his favorite book.
But the trash can? That was a no. As her dad’s “person,” Tate knew it was time to involve his doctor.
Tate’s research at CU Anschutz is personal. She’s an assistant professor of internal medicine and geriatric medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and an investigator with the Patient-Centered Decisions Core at ACCORDS. She’s working with a team to develop a Dementia Roadmap designed to guide patients and caregivers through the long, winding road of living with dementia. The roadmap will provide information, guidance and resources for living with dementia. Here, she answers questions about what families face at the beginning of the journey.
