Chancellor Don Elliman and other leaders at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, including the deans of the schools and colleges, gathered April 21 for a moment of solidarity in the wake of the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd.

In a message to the campus before the Boettcher Commons gathering of connection and healing, Chancellor Elliman said, “Our job as an academic medical campus devoted to service, health and healing is to determine our role in helping to right historic wrongs and address current inequities. While we might not know exactly what that role looks like, or what the next step – or the next 50 – might be, we know without a doubt that there is much to do, and we are stronger and better together.”
The leadership team and others attending the gathering signed a Pledge for Solidarity that recognizes how the campus community is working together for a more equitable and just future. After the event, breakout sessions were held in Education 2 North to further the dialogue and healing, with options for identity-based discussion, as well as allyship and safe space groups.
