Physician burnout? It's an epidemic

When Marc Moss, MD, vice chair of clinical research for the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (SOM), delivers presentations about the growing epidemic of physician burnout he shows a clip from the “M*A*S*H” TV show. In the “Heal Thyself” episode, the Army hospital hosts a top-notch replacement surgeon who ends up breaking down amid the unabated stream of wounded soldiers. The strain builds until the surgeon finally crumples to the floor, rubbing his hands together and saying to no in particular, “The blood won’t come off.”

Researchers awarded grants for health studies

On Monday, researchers at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus were awarded multiple grants from the Rose Community Foundation to advance cardiology research as well as arthritis research and treatment. The one-time grantmaking is an initiative called “Heart and Soul,” awarding nearly $1.3 million to six organizations in the greater Denver area.

College of Nursing ranks among top online graduate programs

U.S. News announced the 2019 Best Online Programs in the country and the University of Colorado College of Nursing online master’s in nursing ranked as one of the top in the nation at No. 4. Only one other public university placed higher than CU. For the past three years, CU has ranked in the top 10 of online nursing programs (No. 4 in 2018 and No. 9 in 2017). Factors contributing to the rank included graduation rates, academic and career support services offered to students and admissions selectivity.
