Written by Staff | September 22, 2020
  • What you need to know: Below are resourceful answers to a list of common questions as election day nears.

When is Election Day?

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

When is the last day I can register to vote?

Colorado has same-day voter registration. You can register and vote until 7 p.m. on Election Day (Nov. 3) at a polling location.

Colorado also has automatic voter registration, completed after signing up for some government services. If you recently received a new driver’s license or ID card, for example, you are automatically registered to vote. You can check your voter registration via the secretary of state’s office at www.govotecolorado.gov

If I’m already registered to vote, will I automatically receive a mailed ballot?

Yes, Colorado has automatic voter registration with mail-in ballots. You will receive a ballot in the mail at your registered address.

You can check your voter registration and address via the secretary of state’s office at www.govotecolorado.gov

When is the last date to register to vote and receive a ballot in the mail?

Oct. 26, 2020, is the last day to update your voter information (a new address after a move, for example) or register to vote and receive a mail-in ballot. You can do this through www.govotecolorado.gov

When are ballots mailed out to voters?

Ballots will be mailed the week of Oct. 9, 2020.

When does early voting begin for overseas or military voters?

Early voting for these groups began Sept. 18, 2020.

Is there a ballot drop box on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus?

Yes. There is an Adams County ballot drop box on campus.

  • (Please see the following question for using the on-campus ballot drop box as a non-Adams County registered voter).

The campus drop box is located at the northeast corner of the Monte Vista Parking Lot, just south of the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center.

You can find the CU Anschutz campus ballot box location here and a map of the CU Anschutz campus here.

Additionally, the CU Anschutz campus has an in-person polling location for Adams County voters. You may also drop off your mail ballot at this location during the operating hours listed below.

On campus ballot drop box for Adams County, located near the

Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and Monte Vista Parking Lot

The polling location will be in Education 2 South and open the following limited dates and times due to COVID-19:

  • Friday, Oct. 30 – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 31 – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 2 – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 3) – 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

What if I’m not registered to vote in Adams County and use the campus ballot drop box?

Not to worry - county clerks and recorders will route your ballot to the correct county you are registered to vote in.

  • However, there may be delays with your ballot getting to the clerk and recorder for your county of residence if you use the campus drop box and are not registered to vote in Adams County.

If you do place a ballot in a drop box for a different county than you are registered to vote in, be mindful of how close to election day you are in dropping off your ballot and give it plenty of time to be routed correctly. Ballots must be received by your county’s clerk and recorder by 7 p.m. on Election Day (Nov. 3).
