We are excited to announce that Anne Adema, MD, (assistant professor, Section of Emergency Medicine), has been selected as an Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Scholar for 2024-2025.
Funded both nationally and federally, the EMSC Innovation and Improvement Center strives to reduce disability and fatalities among children and youth due to severe illness and injury. With a goal to minimize morbidity and mortality in acutely ill and injured children across the EMS for children continuum, EMSC is committed to improving care quality and outcomes for children. Through a quality improvement (QI) approach, EMSC collaborates nationwide to elevate the standard of pediatric medical care.
Introduced in 2021, the EMSC Scholars Program supports early career clinicians and healthcare systems professionals, such as Adema, in progressing as leaders in the pediatric emergency field. Scholars participate in a one- to two-year program, working with experts in the field to develop and implement a project aligned with their interests.
Adema's project concentrates on exploring innovative methods and strategies to analyze and enhance a range of tools to improve pediatric readiness. "My goal is to be able to provide free, easy-to-disseminate, high-quality tools for medical teams to implement and apply to their environment," says Adema.
In conjunction with her local mentors, Kathleen Adelgais, MD, MPH/MSPH, (professor, Section of Emergency Medicine) and Sandra Spencer, MD, (associate professor, Section of Emergency Medicine), and her national mentor, Marc Auerbach, MD, FAAP, MSc, (professor at the Yale School of Medicine) she engages in monthly meetings with the national EMSC mentorship team to refine and finalize her project.
