Early initiation of bilevel positive airway pressure (BPAP) did not reduce the duration of continuous albuterol therapy among children presenting to the emergency department (ED) with acute asthma exacerbations, according to study findings published in JAMA Network Open. “The results of the study may indicate that early BPAP commenced in the ED offers no clinical benefit in acute pediatric asthma exacerbations,” wrote study author Patrick T. Wilson, of the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine, and colleagues.
