The Department of Pediatrics is excited to announce the appointment of Karen L. Kelminson, MD '04, MPH '10 associate professor, Section of General Pediatrics, as Clinic Medical Director of the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome (“Sie Center”) within the Department of Pediatrics and at Children’s Hospital Colorado, effective July 1.
Kelminson has been a long-time member of the Sie Center team having dedicated a portion of her clinical effort to the center’s multi-disciplinary clinics in addition to her efforts in the Special Care Clinic with a focus on feeding difficulties and sleep disorders. With her appointment as clinic medical director, she will dedicate all her professional efforts to the Sie Center and assist Director Nicole Baumer, MD, MEd to further enhance and improve the center’s clinical programming.
Kelminson has been a part of the University of Colorado and the Department of Pediatrics since earning her medical degree here in 2004. She completed her pediatric residency in 2007 and her fellowship in primary care research and a master of public health in 2010. She joined Department of Pediatrics faculty in 2010 and was promoted to associate professor in 2021. Kelminson currently serves as a member of the Down syndrome Medical Interest Group. Her clinical research interest includes evaluating barriers to accessing medical care and outcomes of medical care in children with Down syndrome from Spanish speaking households and in understanding the impact of obstructive sleep apnea in children with Down syndrome.
Together with Baumer, Kelminson shares a dedication and passion for helping children and adolescents with Down syndrome live happy, successful and fulfilling lives through excellent medical care, clinical research and community outreach.
