The Department of Pediatrics is delighted to announce that Eva Nozik, MD, (professor, Section of Critical Care Medicine), assumes the role of Section Head of Critical Care Medicine effective July 1, 2024. Nozik's extensive expertise and experience, coupled with her successful interim leadership role since December 1, 2023, have positioned her well to lead and manage the multifaceted responsibilities within the section. A graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, she completed her pediatric residency and critical care fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center. She commenced her academic journey at Duke in 1995 and later returned to Colorado in 2004 as an associate professor. Her commitment and accomplishments led to her promotion to professor in 2012, subsequently achieving tenure in 2017.
Nozik is not only an accomplished physician-scientist but also a mentor. She currently holds funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute with a R35 Outstanding Investigator Award, focusing on redox-sensitive signaling in pulmonary vascular diseases. Her contributions include serving as the former program director for the University of Colorado Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship from 2006 to 2017 and being a member of the National Advisory Committee for the NIH/NICHD Pediatric Critical Care and Trauma Scientist Development Program since 2013.
Nozik is strongly dedicated to promoting collaborations among physicians, advanced practice providers and PhD research faculty to encourage a range of interests within our department. She firmly believes that interdisciplinary research drives innovation and advancement, fostering an environment that supports the development of future leaders in critical care medicine. Eva is committed to enhancing the professional growth of our skilled and diverse staff and trainees, emphasizing our steadfast dedication to academic excellence, and advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in our workplace.
As the new Section Head, Nozik is entrusted with a support package that will enable targeted growth and further development of the section’s clinical, research and academic programs.
We want to express deep appreciation to Kurt R. Stenmark, MD, for his remarkable 37-year tenure as the section head of critical care medicine. Stenmark's exceptional leadership has been instrumental in the significant growth and esteemed reputation of the section, establishing it as a leading academic and clinical program globally. His visionary approach and tireless efforts have laid a strong foundation upon which we will continue to innovate and excel.
