Finding a born and raised Coloradan sometimes feels like discovering a rare gem. The state’s population boom and continued growth ensured that more Coloradans are transplants than born in the state, (fifty-seven percent more, to be exact), so new Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Alumni Relations Program Manager Madison Crepeau’s status as a local firmly cements her place as a gem. Which is great for CU Pharmacy alumni, because she is delightful.
“It's very rare,” she said laughing. “I feel so lucky, and it was fun, just getting to grow up here and getting the strong appreciation for the mountains and everything else that the state has to offer. I feel like I have a strong appreciation for the state.”
Born in Highlands Ranch, Crepeau always had a passion for building relationships and an appreciation for education. Her mom was an elementary school teacher, and Crepeau would sit in her classroom after school where she saw first-hand the hard work it takes to be an educator and to connect with students. The connection piece translated into Crepeau’s own career choice, communications. While a master's student at the University of Wyoming, she had the opportunity to teach undergraduate public speaking and found something she loved.
“I loved getting to work with students in that way and seeing the impact you can make and how rewarding it can be to work with students and help them find that aha moment, help them make it click,” she said.
After graduation, she came back to Denver to the University of Colorado to work in the CU Anschutz School of Public Health and then later in the College of Nursing in Student Affairs. When the opportunity arose to work with CU Pharmacy alumni, it was one she couldn’t pass up.
“I’m excited to keep building relationships,” she said. “I love connecting with people, I love learning more about them and their career, their life. It’s rewarding.”
For her own life, Crepeau loves to travel, to do what she calls “Colorado outdoor things, like hiking and skiing.” She loves to read and is a self-described audiophile.
“I love live music and I especially love listening to music on vinyl,” she said. “Most days I put on music and get to work.”
It is not lost on Crepeau that she is stepping into a role of great importance to the school, and at a pivotal time where she can make it her own.
“That’s what excites me,” she said. “We have incredible, engaged alumni, and I’m eager to introduce new programs, take some risks, and discover how they want to stay connected with the school.”
Crepeau says she’s eager to combine her deep Colorado roots with a fresh perspective, creating opportunities that feel both welcoming and innovative. With her passion for people and her love of the state that raised her, she’s ready to help CU Pharmacy alumni feel the same sense of belonging, whether they live in the Rockies or halfway around the world.
