Over 100 Women from 30 Countries Gather for International Women's Day

Written by Stephanie Carlson | April 09, 2018

March was Women's History Month and several women from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and other Aurora businesses, participated in an International Women's Day Celebration. This is the second official year for the event and it included more than 125 women, from 30 countries with 15 sponsors and exhibitors.

The idea for the event stems from a gathering in 2016, where several women from Denver African Communities decided to commemorate International Women's Day with a "Girls Night Out" at a local restaurant. This group of women thought, "Why not invite other ladies?" They saw an opportunity to bring women together for business promotion, networking, and empowerment.

2017 was the first organized Colorado International Women's Day celebration. It was held in partnership with the Colorado Ivorian Organization (CIVO), the City of Aurora's Office of International and Immigrants Affairs, and CU Pharmacy. At the conclusion of the event, the attendees unanimously called for another Colorado International Women’s Day in 2018. This year's event was held on March 11th and the Colorado Cameroonian Association was brought in as a new partner.

The plan is to have another celebration, March of 2019, to commemorate International Women's Day. If you are intersted in sponsoring the event, please contact CU Pharmacy faculty member Hilda Bi Ndikum, PharmD.
