CU Pharmacy Faculty Win Excellence Awards

Written by Stephanie Carlson | April 25, 2018

Each year, faculty at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus are recognized for their accomplishments. The Faculty Excellence Awards are special because the winners are nominated by students and chosen by faculty peers and selection committees comprised of previous award winners. There are several faculty members from the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on the 2018 list.

Scott Mueller, Pharm D, assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, received the President's Excellence in Teaching Award. Students from the CU Pharmacy Class of 2018 nominated Dr. Mueller. He teaches infectious disease and also taught the acute care elective course for the graduating class. According to Mueller, "The students help us be successful in what we do." He also serves as the faculty advisor for Colorado Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSSHP), was the capstone course director for the Class of 2018, is a preceptor at University of Colorado Hospital in the Medical Intensive Care Unit and co-coordinator of Pharmacotherapy 6.

Jennifer Kiser, PharmD, associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was selected as a recipient of the Chancellor’s Teaching Award for the Graduate School. This was based on nomination by graduate students in the pharmaceutical sciences and toxicology program. Kiser’s laboratory is a leader in the development of state of the art analytical methods to quantitate antiviral drug concentrations in various biologic matrices. She is a panel member for the national Hepatitis C treatment guidelines and does groundbreaking research into adherence and difficult-to-treat populations by recruiting active drug users into a study that cures them of Hepatitis C.

Ty Kiser, PharmD, associate professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, was also selected as a recipient of the Chancellor's Teaching Award. The students that nominated him recognize him for his superior teaching, precepting at University of Colorado Hospital in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, and mentoring and development of current students. Dr. Kiser teaches infectious disease and also taught the acute care and patient-centered communications course for the Class of 2018.
