Celebrating Genetic Counselor Awareness Day With the CU Cancer Center’s Hereditary Cancer Program

Written by Greg Glasgow | November 14, 2024

The second Thursday of November is Genetic Counselor Awareness Day — a day to commend the health care providers who help people understand their genetic risk for a variety of diseases and get genetic testing if necessary.

The University of Colorado Cancer Center has eight genetic counselors within the Hereditary Cancer Program, which began in the mid-1990s. We spoke with program co-director Lisa Ku, MS, CGC, about genetic counseling and why it’s important to know your family’s cancer history.
