The University of Colorado Cancer Center delivers world-class care to people living with cancer. And when those patients need to go to the hospital, a team of hospital-based providers helps ensure their top-notch care goes with them.
They’re called oncology hospitalists – “onc-hospitalists” for short. About 40 providers work as part of the Oncology Hospitalist Group, a collaboration of the CU Department of Medicine’s divisions of Hospital Medicine and Medical Oncology. Established in 2011, the multidisciplinary team is based at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). It’s the only full-scale group of its kind in Colorado.
To learn more about the work of onc-hospitalists, we turned to the inpatient oncology unit’s medical director, Sarah Scarpato, MD, an assistant professor of hospital medicine. She’s been at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus since 2017.
