Study Links Respiratory Viruses Like Flu and COVID to Reactivation of Dormant Cancer Cells

Research led by James DeGregori, PhD at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus shows that respiratory viruses such as the flu and COVID-19 can awaken dormant cancer cells, increasing the risk of metastasis. The findings, published in Nature, suggest infections may accelerate cancer recurrence and worsen outcomes for survivors.
