Have Fun in the Snow, But Remember: You’ve Got Skin in the Game

Colorado is a winter playground, whether your passion is skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or just throwing snowballs. But the bright sun that helps make winter sports in the Rockies so delightful also poses a threat to your skin.

Unprotected exposure to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight can cause early aging and damage to your skin and lead to skin cancer. Snow and ice can reflect the sun’s rays, increasing your risk.

But there are ways to protect yourself. We spoke with Tamara Terzian, PhD, University of Colorado Cancer Center member, and assistant professor of dermatology, about how to stay safe in the winter sun.
