The inaugural volunteer week for Colorado School of Public Health was a resounding success thanks to our students, staff, and faculty. The week, which took place from Nov. 11-15, spanned all three campuses and helped communities throughout central and northern Colorado. More than 30 people volunteered 50 hours of their time with five local organizations, and impacted more than 1,000 community members.
The following organizations were included throughout the week:
- The Gathering Place
- Project Angel Heart
- The Village Exchange Center
- Food for Thought Denver
ColoradoSPH kicked off the week with decorating more than 80 bags for Project Angel Heart, an organization that delivers medically tailored meals to Coloradans who are living with cancer, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS, and more.
Next came clothing donation and sorting for The Gathering Place. More than 600 pieces of clothing were collected from the CU Anschutz, Greeley, and Fort Collin’s campus locations. The Gathering Place provides low-barrier, trauma-informed care to women, gender-diverse people, and children facing homelessness and instability.
At Food for Thought Denver and the Village Exchange Center, ColoradoSPH showed up to organize, and sort, providing meals for more than 700 families across the Denver metro area.
“A group of us volunteered at Food for Thought. I was blown away by the organization, their operation, and the pride they take in their mission,” said Christine Gillen.
Given our vision of Public Health Elevated. Rising Together for a Healthier Future for All, we organized these events to give everyone within the school a chance to come together and give back to the local community.
