Each year, the Colorado School of Public Health honors exceptional students, faculty, and staff at an awards ceremony coinciding with graduation. The following individuals have made outstanding contributions to public health and our school. Congratulations to this year's award winners!

Colorado School of Public Health awards

Dean’s Special Recognition Award

This award recognizes an individual or organization for major contributions to ColoradoSPH. This year’s winner is Lisa Miller, Associate Dean for Public Health Practice and clinical professor in the Department of Epidemiology. 

 

Tom GonzalesDelta Omega Honorary Inductee

The Honorary Delta Omega Inductee possesses exceptional qualifications and has attained meritorious distinction in the field of public health. This year’s inductee is Tom Gonzales, public health director for the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. 

 

Wei PerngFaculty Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

This award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the areas of student mentorship, research, practice, or education that furthers the ColoradoSPH mission and commitment to DEI. This year’s winner is Wei Perng, assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology and assistant director of 'omics research at the LEAD Center.

 

Alex KaizerFaculty Excellence in Teaching 

This award recognizes a faculty member for instructional contributions to ColoradoSPH. This year’s winner is Alex Kaizer, assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics & Informatics.

 

 

Katherine JamesFaculty Excellence in Research 

This award recognizes an outstanding investigator with a demonstrated record of nationally and internationally recognized research or creative work providing significant contribution to their profession or discipline. This year’s winner is Katherine James, associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental & Occupational Health. 

 

Elizabeth GreenwellFaculty Excellence in Student Advising & Mentoring

This award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to student learning and professional development through advising and mentoring. This year’s winner is Elizabeth “Babette” Greenwell, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Community & Behavioral Health.

 

Evelinn BorrayoFaculty Excellence in Public Health Practice

This award recognizes faculty for their excellence and commitment to public health practice or service in the Rocky Mountain Region. This year's winner is Evelinn Borrayo, professor in the Department of Community & Behavioral Health, associate director of research at the Latino Research & Policy Center, and associate director of community outreach and engagement at the CU Cancer Center.

 

Sean WalcottStudent Excellence in Public Health Practice

This award recognizes students, faculty, alumni, and community members for their excellence and commitment to public health practice or service in the Rocky Mountain Region. This year's winner is Shawn Walcott, MPH student at ColoradoSPH at UNC.

 

Outstanding Contribution by a Staff Member

This award recognizes ColoradoSPH staff who demonstrate outstanding achievement, a strong work ethic, cooperation with others, and a commitment to the school. In 2022, this award was expanded to recognize both staff and PRAs of the school, and went from one award to four awards annually.

Virginia ViscontiPresident’s Excellence in Teaching Award

This award is selected by the graduating class for outstanding, innovative, and inspirational contributions to our students’ professional development. Among this year's recipients is Virginia Visconti, assistant professor in the Department of Community & Behavioral Health and the concentration director for the MPH in Community & Behavioral Health program.

 

Elizabeth GreenwellChancellor’s Teaching Recognition Award

This award is nominated by the graduating class and selected by a committee with a student representative, a faculty representative, and an administrator. Among this year’s winners is Elizabeth "Babette" Greenwell, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Community & Behavioral Health. 

 

Colorado State University awards

Merara FawCSU Provost Teaching Scholar

This annual award from the Provost and the Council of Chairs created the award to recognize the impact of research and teaching by early- to mid-career faculty deserving special acknowledgment at Colorado State University. Among this year's recipients is Meara Faw, assistant professor in the Department of Community & Behavioral Health.

 

Jude BayhamInterdisciplinary Scholarship Individual Award

This award recognizes either a faculty member or research team whose interdisciplinary scholarship has had a major impact nationally and/or internationally, or who have demonstrated their potential to do so. This year's recipient is Jude Bayham, assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Agricultural and Resource Economics.
