Q&A Header

Why did you choose to go into dentistry and your specialty in particular?

I wanted to be a dentist since I was nine years old and was inspired by my childhood dentist. It wasn’t until I got into dental school where I learned just how vast the field is. I found myself being more inclined to the diagnostic sciences, learning disease processes and research. I pursued a GPR to improve my dental skillset but during my training I was introduced to oral medicine whilst treating medically complex patients and working with physicians in a hospital setting.

Describe your teaching style or philosophy.

Firm but kind. I think students deep down want to be challenged but also need guidance and encouragement in the process. I believe in an open-door policy where students feel supported, heard and guided. I know I needed that as a student, and many of my mentors who had an open door for me are still great connections today.

What do you think are the most important attributes of a strong student and future dentist?

Approaching school the same way as an athlete would with their sport is an important mindset to have. Both require discipline, training, trials and resilience.
