Laura Kuhne, DMD, graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina James B Edwards College of Dental Medicine in Charleston, South Carolina, and went on to complete her General Practice Residency here at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2017.
Before returning to CU Dental, Kuhne worked in private practice in Erie, Colorado, provided care to the geriatric population through mobile dentistry at nursing homes across the state of Colorado, and most recently worked as attending faculty at the Denver Health General Practice Residency program where she educated residents in treating complex dental trauma, advanced surgical cases and restorative dentistry.
Outside of dentistry, Kuhne spends her time traveling, enjoying live music and experiencing everything Colorado has to offer with her two Siberian huskies, Maya and Kemba.
How does it feel to be director of the GPR program as an alumna?
It is truly a full circle moment and a dream come true to return to the program that shaped me as a dental provider, and to have the opportunity to provide an experience for dental residents that echoes the exceptional education I received during my GPR year.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
New Zealand! It has all the beauty of Australia without the poisonous fauna and flora.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“All growth happens at the end of your comfort zone.” An anecdote that was ingrained in me early in life that I now try to instill into my residents. Whether it be in dentistry or in life, push the circumference of your comfort zone so that maybe what was once unknown and frightening becomes your new normal.
