At some point in life, you may be faced with switching to a new primary care provider. Whatever the reason, it’s a change that should be considered carefully.
About 30% of Americans selected a new health care provider in 2021, according to a survey by business services company Accenture. While only a small fraction of older people changed providers that year, about half of people born since the 1980s made a change, the survey showed.
To help us sort out what we should know about changing primary care providers, we turned to Mark Earnest, MD, PhD, head of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado Department of Medicine. He has been listed frequently among the Denver area’s Top Doctors by 5280 magazine.
