CARES Act Funding: December 10, 2021

Written by Vineet Chopra, MD, MSc | December 10, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

As announced earlier this week, CU Medicine successfully applied for federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding. In coordination with the School of Medicine and the clinical department chairs, we are preparing to distribute these funds to the clinical units for the December 31 paycheck.

The Department of Medicine leadership, including division heads and vice chairs, had the opportunity to decide how we would allocate these funds within our department. After discussion and deliberation, we determined as a group that the DOM CARES Act funding should be distributed throughout the department to our frontline clinicians, clinical faculty, research faculty, staff, PRA’s, residents and fellows. Each group has faced extraordinary challenges during this pandemic, and this additional payment is one way the department would like to recognize everyone’s efforts and commitment.

I’m proud to say this collective decision is reflective of our values in the DOM – we truly are all in this together. The last 18 months have been difficult and there are more challenges that remain. However, we must continue to work together, celebrate our successes, and recognize the ongoing sacrifices of all members of our department. Please know that I am grateful for each of you and what you do every day. I am appreciative that these funds will allow us to recognize all of our people – and in this season of giving, I hope you receive much joy in this news.

On a personal front, I have been humbled by the camaraderie, passion, excellence and team spirit that I have witnessed while on service these past few days in the hospital. Although the days have been long and the work at times grueling, I have found time to smile, meet new colleagues and experience moments of levity. This is why we do what we do and I am honored to be part of this great team.

Onwards,

Vineet
