The Quarterly Connection: January 2024

Welcome to the The Quarterly Connection, where we dive a little deeper into our programming as well as share upcoming activities and opportunities for you to engage in.  We would like to start out the year by highlighting the Supplier Diversity Initiative, which serves to connect local businesses in North Aurora and Northeast Denver with departments on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus.  By including and supporting diverse businesses in our supply chain, we create opportunity, promote innovation, and stimulate growth that enriches our community as a whole.

In honor of LGBTQ History Month, our October 2023 edition will highlight the work of the LGBTQ+ Hub. Through providing trainings, hosting events, and collaborating with community and campus partners, the LGBTQ+ Hub works hard year round to create and maintain an inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ and allied students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors on campus and within the Aurora community.

The Quarterly Connection: July 2023

Welcome to The Quarterly Connection, where we dive a little deeper into our programming as well as share upcoming activities and opportunities for you to engage in. In our July 2023 edition, we are excited to highlight the work of the Office for Educational Outreach and Pathway Initiatives (EOPI). Throughout the school year and summer, EOPI stays busy in support of potential future students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in science professions. This dedicated team is committed to providing sustained, comprehensive programs across all educational levels to promote access and increase the numbers of underrepresented populations in healthcare, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and research professions.

'Other' race/ethnicity linked to higher suicide and overdose risk in military members with mild TBI

Previous studies have reported high rates of death by suicide and drug overdose—including opioid overdose—in military service members with a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).  A new study finds that those risks are highest among military members with mTBI who identify their racial/ethnic status as "Other," as opposed to standard racial/ethnic categories. The study is published in the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation.
