A new addition to the long list of achievements and accolades for Kathleen Flarity, DNP, PhD, carries special significance, she says.
On Oct. 2, she will be honored at a gala hosted by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce (CWCC) as one of its Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business. Recipients are selected based on civic and community engagement, proven leadership, perseverance, and their work advancing other female leaders.
“It’s very unique to be recognized by strong, powerful women,” Flarity says. “I'm proud to stand alongside these amazing women because they all lead with courage, service, and their heart.”
For Flarity, a professor in the University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Emergency Medicine, leadership comes in many forms: U.S. Air Force brigadier general (retired) and squadron commander at home and in war zones. Executive director, Marcus Institute for Brain Health at CU Anschutz. Co-founder and deputy director, Combat Medicine Research Center at CU Emergency Medicine. A trailblazer in treatment and research focused on traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and resiliency among those who serve their country and their communities.
And for decades, Flarity has played an important role in uplifting women leaders, as a commander, a mentor, and an exemplar.
Ahead of the CWCC gala, we spoke with Flarity about leadership and women leaders.
