5 Questions for Katy Boyd-Trull:
How long have you been affiliated with the Department of Family Medicine?
I started my residency training here in June 2009-2012. After my fellowship I have been the family medicine in patient medical director for the past 10 years.
What does the Chase Award and the recognition that goes along with it, mean to you?
I cried when I found out about this award. It means everything when complete strangers recognize your work and acknowledge that it matters.
What plans have you for the cash award ($10,000.00) that goes along with the honor?
Not sure what I will do with all of it but plan on purchasing some prepaid phones for PEH people experiencing homelessness.
Tell me about your non-profit organization. Its name, history, mission, what you do. How you involve medical students, residents, and colleagues?
YHC Clinic is a non-profit providing free medical care and resources to persons experiencing homelessness and persons at risk of experiencing homelessness. Donations can be given on our website yhcclinic.org and volunteers can be coordinated through contacting chloe@yhcclinic.org
Why do you do the things you do to help others?
I grew up with housing and food insecurities and it feels awful to be desperate and feel hopeless. Through my personal faith I made a promise to take time to see what a person is really going through and try to help them to get to a better and more hope filled tomorrow.
