Jerica M. Berge, PhD, MPH, LMFT, CFLE, Director of the Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) and Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz, is a co-author of an article published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR) titled, “A Home-Based Intervention to Improve Adherence to the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines in Young Children: Protocol for a Mobile App-Based Randomized Control Trial."
This study focuses on improving preschoolers’ health through the use of a mobile health app. When asked what this work means to her, Dr. Berge shared that she is hopeful about the app’s success and sustainability for parents and their children.
“Only 15% of preschoolers meet the World Health Organization (WHO) movement guidelines of three hours a day of physical activity, 10-13 hours of sleep, and less than 1 hour of sedentary behavior,” said Dr. Berge. “This study uses mobile health technology to support parents in helping their children meet these guidelines. The app was developed using user-centered design principles with parents of preschoolers, so it has a much higher likelihood of success and sustainability. We’re excited to test this app with parents and their children.”
