University of Colorado medical student Heami Yi recently received some great news.

In her fourth year of medical school, Yi has been honored by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Foundation with a Student Scholarship to attend the STFM 2024 Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Yi was nominated by her family medicine mentor and the Department of Family Medicine’s UME team for her work in research around access to emergency contraception in areas of the country where access to abortion has been severely limited on the heels of the recent US Supreme Court decision that effectively stripped women of their constitutional right to abortion access.

“I am honored and excited,” says Yi. “To have the opportunity to connect with family medicine researchers from across the country is amazing and I am so grateful.”

Yi says that she has chosen family medicine as her field of concentration and practice. And, now in her final year of medical school, she is already applying for a spot in family medicine residencies including the University of Colorado Family Medicine Residency.

“I grew up in Colorado Springs. Went to CU Denver for undergrad. And, now medical school here on the Anschutz Campus,” she says. “I would love the opportunity to continue my training right here, but we’ll see.”

Congratulations, Heami! You make us proud.
