Palliative Care Education leadership had a whirlwind trip to “America’s Finest City” from March 3-7, 2026 at the San Diego Convention Center.
On Wednesday, Dr. Katie Morrison, Co-director of the CHPM Fellowship, presented “Feedback and Direct Observation of Fellows” with Steve Berns, Laura Morrison, Katie Stowers, Holly Yang, Gary Buckholz, Bri Ketterer, and Carolyn Kezar on Wednesday afternoon. The AAHPM assessment committee was happy to work with participants to practice giving feedback and direct observation of learners' skills. Using videos created in conjunction with ACGME, and working in small groups with volunteer "fellows" and "patients" participants in the course were able to practice giving a fellow feedback after direct observation of the fellow delivering serious news.
MSPC Program Director, Melissa Palmer presented a pre-conference workshop sponsored by Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) called “Navigating Complex Choices: Hot Topics in Palliative Care Ethics and Practice” with her colleagues Erin Collins NP, Jennifer Blechman MD, and MSPC affiliate faculty Beth Patterson, MA in spiritual care/death doula. The attendees actively participated in thought-provoking discussions about the role of palliative care community specialists when addressing MAiD and VSED.
For some evening fun, the leadership team caught up with CU MSPC Anschutz faculty, students, alumni, and others from our palliative care education community. Here are some photos from the CU Anschutz PC Dinner at Old Mexican Restaurant. We weren’t able to connect with everyone, but we were grateful to spend time with our community of palliative care-focused professionals.
On our last night in sunny San Diego, Palliative Care professionals from CU Anschutz connected with the UC Health traditional palliative care clinical fellows and the NIA T32 palliative care research fellows at La Puerta, famed for the best tacos in San Diego.
We look forward to connecting again at the 2027 Annual Assembly, March 17–20, 2027, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!
