The Colorado School of Public Health and Denver Health announce the appointment of Karen B. Mulloy (photo), DO, MSCH, as director of the school's occupational and environmental medicine residency program, along with the appointment of Deputy Director Roxana Witter, MD, MPH.

The residency, which is part of the school's Mountain and Plains Education and Research Center, provides physicians training in the clinical and environmental factors of local and global workplaces.

"Employers are focusing greater attention on the connection between employee and health and safety and workplace productivity," states the school's interim dean Judith Albino, PhD. "Connecting the school's research and training expertise to Denver Health's clinical leadership expands existing efforts to meet employer and employee health needs."

Mulloy is the medical director of the Denver Health Center for Occupational Safety and Health and associate professor in the school's department of environmental and occupational health. She provides direction and leadership at COSH in the medical care for injured and ill workers and provides instruction to residents who rotate through COSH. Mulloy is board-certified in both Occupational Medicine and Family Medicine and has earned numerous awards for scholastic achievement and community service.

Witter is an assistant professor of environmental and occupational health. Her research interests include the health effects of methamphetamine exposure and health effects of oil and gas activities. She teaches the school's environmental and occupational toxicology course and currently conducts research with the U.S. Department of Energy.
