A trial that could dramatically increase the number of donor lungs

In addition to being Valentine’s Day, Tuesday is National Donor Day. A clinical trial at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) may increase the number of lungs available for donation.

It’s called ex-vivo lung perfusion (EVLP). An oxygenated fluid is circulated through the donor lung to better identify lungs suitable for donation.
