The CU Anschutz is hosting a block party on Wednesday, September 13. The block party combines a festival and information fair so students, staff, and faculty can learn about everything happening on campus and the surrounding community.

People can buy lunch from more than a dozen food trucks and score free items like water bottles and tote bags. There are also 200 $5 food vouchers available for the food trucks, distributed at the Canvas Credit Union booth.

“I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like a good party,” CU Anschutz Senior Director of Events Zack Strober says. “Grab some food, listen to music, play some games, get some free stuff, it’s a great way to spend an hour if you have it.”

The block party also features more than 120 booths set up in Bonfils Circle. The booths represent internal university departments and colleges, including the College of Nursing. Other booths will represent student organizations, local businesses, and non-profits.

“The purpose is to get people out and connect them,” Strober says. “This is kind of a chance to bring everyone together and show that we’re part of this campus – the hospitals and the university – and put it all on display. For students, it’s an opportunity to see the breadth of the campus and the different areas that make up our community.”

Strober says it’s an event people on campus look forward to – and tries to make the block party fresh and entertaining every year. This year, the block party will feature a DJ, and performances from Esmé Patterson, and Roshni, an Aurora-based grass-root Arts organization that uses performing arts to promote inclusivity.

“Even if you come down for 20 minutes, you’ll learn something, have a good time, and have an opportunity to buy some food, and get some free stuff and say, ’That’s pretty cool, I can’t wait for next year’”.

The CU Anschutz Medical Campus Block Party is Wednesday, September 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Bonfils Circle. The block party is free to attend. People interested in having a table at the event, the first deadline to apply is Friday, August 25, and the final deadline is Wednesday, September 6.
