AURORA, Colo. (April 8, 2025) – The University of Colorado College of Nursing at Anschutz Medical Campus has one of the best Nurse-Midwifery programs in the U.S.

The 2025 Best Graduate Schools, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, placed CU Nursing’s Nurse-Midwifery program second in the country, up from third in 2024. The rankings are based on several factors, including academic quality, location, environment, cost after tuition and financial aid, and job placement.

“Moving up to the second-best nurse-midwifery program is a wonderful accomplishment,” Specialty Director of Nurse-Midwife Program and Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice Shannon Pirrie, DNP, MS, CNM, says. “We are committed to educating midwives to provide quality and compassionate care, so their patients feel supported during pregnancy and throughout their life span. This ranking reflects the dedication of our CU Midwifery faculty educators and preceptors, who ensure our students receive an education focused on breaking down barriers to health, delivering patient-centered care, and promoting the sustainability and growth of the midwifery profession."

Several of CU Nursing’s other programs have received high rankings from U.S. News & World Report. The college’s online master’s in nursing program is ranked 17th in the country, and the i-LEAD in Nursing and Health Care Systems online program is 7th. CU Nursing’s MS programs, which include 12 specialties, are considered online programs. In previous years, three of the college’s programs were considered online programs until U.S. News changed its requirements for rankings. In the 2024 U.S. News rankings, the college’s Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) is 33rd, and the DNP Adult-Gerontology Acute Care program is 10th.

CU Nursing’s BS in Nursing program is ranked #19 in the country in the 2025 Best Bachelor of Science (BSN) Programs. CU Nursing continues to be the top-ranked nursing program in Colorado.

“CU Nursing is leading the way in educating students at all levels of their nursing education,” CU Nursing Dean Elias Provencio-Vasquez, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAANP, says. “Our faculty, staff, and college leadership strive to provide our students with an education that provides them the tools to become caring and knowledgeable nurses while encouraging them to become leaders in the nursing profession.”
