The Department of Pediatrics is thrilled to share that Angela Czaja, MD, PhD, MSc, professor, Section of Critical Care Medicine, will be stepping into the new role of Director of Faculty Development starting September 1. Czaja has a long history of local and national education leadership. Her steadfast commitment to improving our educational programs fostering diversity, inclusivity and educational growth renders her an exemplary candidate, demonstrating a dedicated support for academic medicine.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Czaja completed her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia/University of Pennsylvania and her critical care fellowship at Seattle Children’s Hospital/University of Washington. Beginning her academic journey at the University of Colorado in 2007 as an assistant professor, she steadily advanced to professor in 2024.
In her new role reporting to the vice chair for education, Czaja will lead efforts to enhance teaching, curriculum development, assessment and feedback skills of pediatric faculty, aligning with best educational practices. Drawing from her experience as a practicing physician in a collaborative clinical setting, she brings valuable insights into instructing and collaborating with learners across diverse healthcare disciplines. Her leadership of the PCCM fellowship has honed her abilities in program administration, emphasizing continual quality enhancement and the implementation of essential educational program improvements. In her new role, she will liaise with other educators involved in similar efforts in the Academy of Medical Educators within the School of Medicine.
Czaja has actively participated in numerous career development initiatives at CU, including the Clinical Faculty Scholars Program, the Teaching Scholars Program, the Leadership in Educational Academic Development (LEAD) program, and the Captains of Inclusion Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She will continue to oversee the department’s Subspecialty Excellence in Educational Leadership and Scholarship (SEELS) program with Kimberly O’Hara, MD, as they enroll their second cohort this summer.
