Keller Recipient of the 2023 AAP Council on Community Pediatrics Job Lewis Smith Award

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Community Pediatrics has awarded the 2023 AAP Job Lewis Smith Award to David Keller, MD.  The award, named for Job Lewis Smith, MD, one of the founding fathers of the American Pediatric Society and chief pioneer of American pediatrics. The prestigious honor is the highest award bestowed by the Council and recognizes lifelong outstanding career achievement in community pediatrics.

Dr. Keller will be acknowledged and accept the award at the annual AAP National Conference & Exhibition in Washington, DC on October 21. Dr. Keller has dedicated more than 40 years to advancing child health in our community and serves as the Department of Pediatrics Vice Chair of Clinical Strategy and Transformation.

Prior award recipients have been recognized for a range of career accomplishments including:

  • Providing outstanding care to underserved communities and working to reduce health disparities
  • Building innovative partnerships and/or programs with community organizations that improve the health of children in the context of the community
  • Advocating at the local, state, and federal levels for underserved and vulnerable communities
  • Advancing education and training on community pediatrics issues, including social determinants of health and health disparities
