Leamer to Step Down from Chair of the Clinical Faculty Affairs Committee

Karen Leamer, MD `86, FAAP, is set to step down from her esteemed role as the chair of the Department of Pediatrics Clinical Faculty Affairs Committee after an impressive 23-year tenure. Since 1989, Dr. Leamer has been a key figure within the department clinical faculty, taking on the leadership of the Clinical Faculty Affairs Committee in 2000. Currently practicing at Every Child Pediatrics in Aurora, she has shown unwavering dedication, commitment and support to our volunteer clinical faculty. Her remarkable contributions have made a lasting impact on our department, and we are deeply grateful for her significant influence and the privilege of having her on our team. She has taught and mentored numerous medical students and residents over the years.

Throughout her time, Dr. Leamer has been actively involved in various committees and boards, such as the Departments of Pediatrics Education Committee, the Colorado Children’s Healthcare Access Program Advisory Board, and the Colorado Association for School-Based Health Care Board of Directors since 2010. She has held leadership positions as president of both the Children’s Hospital Colorado medical staff and the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Dr. Leamer's outstanding service has garnered recognition through prestigious awards, including the department's Outstanding Teaching and Career Teaching Scholar Awards, Children’s Hospital’s Outstanding Service Award, and the Colorado Chapter of the AAP’s James E. Strain Community Service Award.

Leamer obtained her medical degree and completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine before transitioning to private practice.
