The CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences brought its community together on Friday, September12, for the school's first-ever CU PharmOlympics—a celebration of connection and movement that united students, faculty and staff from the School of Pharmacy.

Hosted by Dr. Erika Freitas, PhD, and a planning committee representing all corners of the school— including co-chairs Dr. Debbie Gallegos, PharmD and Dr. Kris Fritz, PhD, the event was dedicated to building intentional school culture. It encouraged friendly competition and community connection through high-energy volleyball matches, cornhole tosses and hula hoop competitions. The PharmOlympics offered a meaningful way to embody the school's culture. The awards ceremony wrapped up a day of food, fun and unity—celebrating not only the winners, but the connection and community that defines CU Pharmacy.

Beyond the games, however, the event embraced a deeper purpose. Everyone who attended was encouraged to bring an item from a wishlist to donate to support The Gathering Place, a local nonprofit serving women, children, and transgender individuals experiencing poverty or homelessness. It was a powerful reminder of CU Pharmacy's commitment to service and compassion.

“We are committed to intentional culture and wellness at the School of Pharmacy,” said Dr. Erika Freitas, PhD, Associate Dean of Culture and Wellness at the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. “This event was an opportunity to bring together faculty, staff and students for an afternoon of friendly competition and relationship building. It’s so important to maintain physical, mental and emotion well-being. Especially in today’s society, we as health professional have to lead by example when it comes to proactive well-being.”

The CU PharmOlympics showcased what makes CU Pharmacy truly special: a commitment to excellence and integrity, while cultivating an environment that supports collaboration, growth and student success.
