From helping to build not one, but two school of pharmacy buildings -- one on the 9th Avenue campus and the other at the Anschutz Medical Campus -- to encouraging collaborative research between seven Skaggs institutions through the unique Skaggs Scholars Program that is centered at the University of Colorado, The ALSAM Foundation has been, and continues to be, a tremendous supporter of our school.
“The latest gift of $1 million is another example of the generosity and true vision of the Foundation,” says Dean Ralph J. Altiere. The gift will help the school convert innovative research into real-world applications that improve patient outcomes and care. It will fund advanced mass spectrometer equipment for microbiome research and a new faculty position in clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics.
Ranked #4 in the nation in NIH funded research, the school is nationally recognized as a top research institution. "Now is the time to translate the breakthroughs in research we are having into life changing treatments. We’re poised in several areas of research to take that next step of transforming research into real world applications and ultimately impacting thousands of lives in the process. These funds will help us do just that," says Dean Ralph J. Altiere.
A legacy of support
Established in 1984 by Utah-area entrepreneurs Aline and Sam Skaggs, The ALSAM Foundation has provided support for education, medical research, human services and Catholic agencies and charities. For more than 20 years, The ALSAM Foundation has supported the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences through substantial financial contributions to help build the pharmacy school buildings, as well as a variety of research initiatives including funding faculty positions. The school is forever grateful for the support of The ALSAM Foundation.
