Nearly 200 students graduated from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program on Friday, May 22. One hundred and fifty-five in the entry level PharmD program and 38 in the NonTraditional PharmD Program (NTPD). After a record breaking 21 days of rain, it finally subsided and the sun began to shine; finally peeking out as our commencement ceremony began.

Congrats to all the graduates, including three in the Doctor of Philosophy program (PhD) who graduated in December (Merry Christie) and May (Stephanie Gritz and Brian Jackson). Four more PhD candidates are scheduled to graduate in August (Rolando DeAngelis, Shyam Mehta, Brandon Teska and Rui Xiong).

Highlights of the festivities include news coverage of our ceremony and PharmD graduates including Laura Vriesman on 9NEWS, and Sara Velotta on the university's website. In addition, Terry Viramontes and Suhair Shawar were videotaped for a news piece produced by Aurora Channel 8. Also, several classmates were included in the special graduation edition of Pharmacy Perspectives, which was distributed during the commencement banquet on Thursday, May 21. Graduates received bronze medallions courtesy of  the Skaggs School of Pharmacy Alumni Association as a memento of their journey with the following message:

Let the weight of this medallion remind you of the years it took to get here -- the lessons learned; the friends made; and the incredible profession you have chosen to pursue. Carry it with you on your professional journey. Above all, dream big and remember, "There are no short cuts to any place worth going."

Now that our graduates have completed their degrees, it's important to keep in touch. Remember, staying connected can be as simple as downloading our Pharmacy Perspectives mobile app to your smartphone, following us on Facebook, signing up for the alumni association or subscribing to eScripts or our blog.
