The totals are in for our annual Holiday Drive, which benefits the Colfax Community Network, and our first-year students came out on top! Each on-campus class, along with faculty and staff, held a friendly competition to see who could collect the most. As you can see from the graph below, the P1 class collected more items than all of the other groups combined, "We were really excited to hear about the opportunity for our class to help out families in the area around campus so we spread the word and tried to bring in as much as we could. The idea of upperclassmen or faculty serving us breakfast was just a bonus," said P1 class President, Eric Hartsfield.
Items that were donated included toys and games for young kids, gift cards and various presents for teenagers, blankets, socks, and backpacks for adults. Food items, gloves, and books were also contributed. The CU Pharmacy Holiday Drive has benefitted the Colfax Community Network since the school moved to its Anshutz Campus location in Aurora, CO in 2008. The development of the campus displaced many of the families that lived in motels along Colfax. On the organization's website, they state that their mission is "to advocate for and work on behalf of families and children residing in low-income transient housing (primarily residential motels) along Colfax Avenue. By providing information, services, and programs, we strengthen and improve family and community life."
The CU Pharmacy student council has a committee that organizes the drive every year. The school has another drive in the spring for the Comitis Center, located on the Anschutz Campus.
