Opening March 31, the Masterworks Exhibit showcases paintings and drawings from impressionist masters such as Monet, Cassatt, Renoir, Pissarro, as well as modern work from artists such as PicassoThe exhibit is free to the public and runs from March 31 - May 24, weekdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Fulginiti Art Gallery on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Mowers agreed to exhibit their art after speaking with their daughter, Robin, who is a clinical oncology pharmacist and graduate of the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Mort Mower, an adjunct distinguished professor of cardiology at CU Anschutz, is co-inventor of the automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator. His wife Tobia, received an honorary PhD from Ben-Gurion University in Israel, has been a nurse for 25 years and a vocal advocate for substance abuse treatment. She is also a noted philanthropist who has helped establish residential recovery homes for those battling drug and alcohol addiction.

The couple began collecting art as an investment but it soon mushroomed into a passion, one they enjoyed sharing with others. Inside their Denver home, the Mowers live side-by-side with Monets and Renoirs hanging above the fireplace or at the end of the kitchen sink.

The Masterworks from the Collection of Tobia and Morton Mower will include:

  • Paintings by Impressionist masters Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro and Alfred Sisley.
  • Drawings by Impressionist masters Edgar Degas and Henri Matisse.
  • Paintings and drawings by modern artists Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, Marc Chagall and Chaim Soutine.
  • Bronze sculpture by Auguste Rodin.

A curated selection of Rembrandt drawings and etchings will be exhibited in the Fulginiti Art Gallery this September.

Since opening in 2012, the Art Gallery at the Fulginiti Pavilion has opened 16 major exhibits and welcomed over 30,000 visitors.  Funded through private gifts, the gallery is free and open to the public five days a week.  As a place to exchange ideas, inspire collaboration, foster compassion, fuel imagination, and transcend boundaries, the Art Gallery realizes the universal appeal of the arts and their power to connect student and teacher, patient and professional, citizen and artist, benefactor and institution.
